3 Places I'd Like To Check Out

Image
1. Morocco  I want to experience everything about Morocco. Fes, Marrakech, Casablanca, Meknes...it doesn't matter where, I just want to experience everything. I long to taste true tagine and see all the colors of spices, textiles, and handmade pottery. I want to feel the Sahara sun on me (and not suffer a heat stroke), while staring out into vast nothingness that is the world's largest desert. I want to ride a camel - as predictable as that is, I don't care. I once watched this episode on Anthony Bourdain's A Cook's Tour  (way before he was on CNN) where he went to Morocco and was on the hunt for a full roasted lamb. They brought a full lamb out to the desert where some locals cooked the whole thing in an oven dug in the desert ground. That would be pretty cool too.  2. Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania Mount Kilimanjaro - a dormant volcano in Tanzania consisting of three volcanic cones, stands at ~16,100 ft. tall. At the top, you're standing at...

Iceland Highlights

Image
I've always wanted to go to Iceland. Hearing of all the dramatic landscapes that can be found throughout the country, the pretty Icelandic horses, the fables and "hidden people" that enchant the land, it seemed like a place that didn't exist on this planet. I've seen numerous photos online and social media, and yet, had no idea what to expect. Skögafoss Before I run through my highlights of the trip, I want to give a few tidbits of advice for those planning on making a visit to Iceland in the future. I definitely recommend packing for warmth (include waterproof clothing and rain pants in your luggage) regardless of travelling in the summer - you can experience all four seasons in one day. I also suggest renting your own car, so you won't have to rely on tour busses to get you around. Day 1: Reykjanesfolkvangur National Park  We touched down at the Keflaviík International Airport around 4:50 am. By the time we got our luggage, picked up the keys to...

Summer in the Rockies

Last summer I had the wonderful opportunity to work and live in Alberta's Banff National Park. I lived in the highest elevated community in North America, Lake Louise (1,600m), and worked at one of the nearby hotels on a summer contract. Chances are, you've probably seen a photo of the picturesque lake before - rumor is, it's the most photographed lake in the world! The famous Lake Louise  And it's easy to see how I immediately fell in love with my surroundings. I made it my summer goal to explore every bit of it as I possibly could, and within the first week of my stay, I had drafted up a lengthy bucket list that never stopped growing. The amazing people I met along the way just added to my experience, and adds to the difficulty of picking out the top highlights of my adventures. But here's my attempt at giving you a preview of just that. Bucket List Item #2: Hike to the Plain of Six Glaciers The Plain of Six Glaciers is a 14 km round-trip hike from the...
